Token strike: CNG stations shut down in protest against load shedding
Staff Report
RAWALPINDI: All Pakistan CNG Association started one-day shutter-down strike in Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Jhelum, Attock and Chakwal districts as a token protest from 12am on Monday against a government decision for closures of CNG stations for two days a week. During the next phase of protest, CNG stations will remain closed in Lahore and Sargodha districts, whereas in the third phase Multan and Bahawalpur will observe strike for one day. In a press release, All Pakistan CNG Association Central President Ghayas Abdullah Paracha said it would be a token strike and if the government did not take the association into confidence on the issue of gas management and withdraw the decision of closing CNG stations for two days a week, CNG stations would observe complete strike from November 15 for an indefinite period. “Motorists, especially public transporters, will suffer a lot due to closure of CNG stations,” he said. He said the association had always supported the government in gas management in the past but this time, the government took the decision on its own, ignoring the CNG industry. He demanded that the government revise prices of CNG. He said CNG sector consumed only six percent of the gas.
